# Descaling additive in “cooking” water?

1. I’d double check if this is scale or your plastic breaking down.
2. I would not add acid to the water during a cook with plastic bags since this would not help with above.

Rainwater is an inexpensive source of mineral-free water. I use water from my rain barrel that gets passed through a coffee filter in a fine mesh strainer before use.
