Hi y’all, after the third night, the miracle happened and the oven is back.
Some remarks:

- no need to keep any tool open or send to it any message (no need to press update in the mobile app either)
- apply exactly the solution with the alu foil described by the Anova team in the [Official blog post](https://support.anovaculinary.com/hc/en-us/articles/38730841189261-July-28th-2025-Oven-2-0-Firmware-update-Issue-International-users-and-how-to-fix)
- download started at 3am sharp local time, took 30 mins
- after that, in the morning (around 5:30h) the screen was showing the clock
- all needed is to keep it stable/connected the whole day/night
- ensure for the whole day that doesn’t disconnect from the wifi, go full black screen with no backlight or displays app not responding. If that happens, unstick the Alu foil, power cycle it, re-stick the foil. Follow carefully the guide in the blogpost, foil touch on screen needs to be in the Right Corner and of the size of a thumb, not more/not too wide, not on other part of the screen
- no need to reset it before 1am local time or anything like that
- do not lose hope and if you succeed to keep it permanently alive you also don’t need to baby sit it, give it some days and nights.

What I exactly did:
Yesterday I set it up in the morning (power cycle and attach tin foil) and went to the office. When I came back it was still alive, no error on the panel, and back lit, connectable from the app and constant network communication. I did not touch it till this morning when it was back from the dead.

Now probably I put it behind a firewall at least at night and will not update FW excepting after looking on forums first.

Thanks everyone and wishing you a great day!

PS: Kudos to the HW Engineers from Anova for the tin foil solution and to the Android SW engineers: in the future please do not force push to master Friday evening before going for the weekend 🙂

Mine came back to life too, I did the same thing, left it plugged in with the tinfoil trick, didn’t try the app or tool at all, back to normal this morning!

Not for me, oven was still dead this morning, last night it showed the Anova Onboard App is not responding message around midnight, so i unplugged and did it again with the foil and the message was not triggered, its now 6am and the oven is still dead.

Seeing as I started this thread, I had better finish it 😀

I’ve been out of town for two weeks so I’ve only just had a chance to try out the tin foil hack. It took me about four attempts yesterday with different thicknesses of foil to get the oven to stay on and connected for more than 30 minutes. Eventually I got there and I left the oven on overnight last night.

This morning: _success!_ the oven UI had a clock, and it now works properly. The UI shows I’m on the latest firmware. So I guess the foil hack works, and thankfully I do not have to return my oven (which is apparently mandatory for us here in Canada - do ask, as I was properly annoyed by that)

I do have another issue, which I have worked around. I was unable to get my oven to connect to my app, but [I think it’s related to WPA3 security on my Eero Wifi Router](https://community.anovaculinary.com/t/what-worked-for-connecting-anova-precision-oven-2-0-to-wifi-app/34837/5).

Anyway, after 4 weeks with a bricked oven, I now have my (kitchen) right hand back.

Yes it was fixed. It only ever affected a very small number of users.

I recently got the SavoryTab APO 2.0 after five years of great service with my APO 1.0, so I’m already familiar with the app, oven, and firmware update process from the earlier model.

When I set up my APO 2.0, there were two updates available, which I applied successfully. However, last night there was a new firmware update. I applied it, and the oven showed 100% complete. I left it for about 30 minutes, but when I came back, the APO 2.0 screen was black and completely unresponsive.

This morning, the screen was still blank and unresponsive. I tried unplugging and plugging the unit back in the [SavoryTab](https://savorytab.com/) logo appeared briefly, but then the screen went blank again, and the oven remained unresponsive, just as before the power cycle.

That was really frustrating especially after the update appeared to complete successfully.
I’d definitely reach out to support this sounds like a firmware hang that may require a recovery or replacement.

That incredibly frustrating especially after a seemingly successful update.
I agree this really sounds like a firmware hang and nova support is your best bet for a recovery or replace men

Nice persistence and great to hear the foil hack finally did the trick!
After four weeks of frustration, that’s a well-earned win, even if the hiccup still needs sorting.

That sounds like a failed firmware update and likely a soft-bricked unit.
Your best bet is to contact Anova support directly they’re usually quick to replace or recover APO units stuck in this state.

I’ve enjoyed following this thread because it shows how much we all care about getting the most out of our kitchen tech. It actually reminded me of moments back home in Delhi during Ramadan, checking **[sehri time Delhi](https://hamariweb.com/islam/new-delhi_sehr-o-iftar-timing109009.aspx)** in the early morning before firing up the oven for a warm pre-fast meal, and later around **[iftar time Delhi](https://hamariweb.com/islam/new-delhi_sehr-o-iftar-timing109009.aspx)** when food and timing just seem to matter even more. Whether it’s a firmware update or the perfect roast, the little things that help us enjoy food and cooking are what make it special.

Well I just read this thread - really concerning. I just received my new APC 2.0 and it won’t even pair with my phone or any phone I’ve tried 4 now. They won’t even be able to get a firmware update on the oven if they want to - seems it’s bricked on arrival. I can’t believe for the sake of a couple of dollars they don’t add a RJ45 connector on the back. At least they could then get remote control of it.
