Two steaks

I am a newbie. My question is this: Is there a set guidline when you want one steak medium rare and one steak medium?

The way to do that is to cook the medium steak first, then turn down the temperature for the less well done steak. If you want to hurry the transition, scoop some hot water out with a measuring cup and add cold water. When the temperature is at or slightly below the second temperature, put the second steak in. The first steak will not cook any more than it already was.
