I am doing an 8+hour cook in the oven. If I leave the house, with my phone, will it reconnect to the cook when I return again? Or do I need to leave the phone at home until the cook is finished?
It’ll do better than that: If you have a data plan, it’ll keep you informed while you’re gone and you’ll have complete control over the oven remotely. You can completely freak out your significant other by changing your oven settings from miles away!

but please don’t change this for liability reasons. if you remove remote access, i’ll have to vpn into my lan or something.
