Mystery ghost cook

I have the Precision Cooker Pro, I’ve been using it for years and I love it!

This morning I set up my cook for this afternoon, a frozen vacuum sealed chicken breast in an ice bath with the cooker submerged and online. I’ve done this a million times, I just start it remotely about 2 hours before I head home from work.

When I got to the office this morning I opened the Anova app to make sure it was connected and everything looked good. The water was 38º, everything looked perfect. I closed the app and went about my morning.

Several hours later I noticed some notifications on my iPhone saying that my cook had finished.

???

I looked more closely, and it had cooked at 197.5º for 25 minutes.
First, I’ve only set the temperature that high once or twice since I’ve owned it. I definitely didn’t set it that high.
Second, I’ve been using the app for years, I know it well, and there’s no way I accidentally set the temperature to 197.5, then set the timer for 25 minutes, then hit start.

So, do I have a ghost in my house??
Is there anything that would explain this?
The thoughts that crossed my mind are:

  1. Someone hacked into my network and is having fun with me. That seems unlikely though.
  2. Maybe some wires got crossed with the Anova server and someone else’s cook was sent to my cooker.

I’d love to hear any thoughts or ideas.

So when you got home, were you able to verify that the temperature had spiked? If not, then I guess your app went haywire.
