My Anova wont connect to my WIFI?

Ive used my new anova 10 times and this is the first time it wont connect, ive tried unplugging a few times but nothing is working? Any suggestions?

Whenever a problem appears, the first thing that you should ask yourself is “What changed?”

Try resetting (rebooting) your WAP (wireless access point/router). You didn’t make any changes on it, did you?

Barring that, I’d reset the anova, set it up again, have it re-learn your wifi network (so, you’ll need to make sure your phone is on the same 2.4GHz network, etc).

You’ll have to unpair it in the app to do so.

I’d definitely try out what @fischersd suggested. If all else fails, hit up support@anovaculinary.com, so they can further troubleshoot and help get you connected.

Thanks ill try it out.

This response from support did the trick for me. I had done all of these steps multiple times, but this finally worked.

Be sure that your phone is connected to a 2.4 network. The anova app will use whatever wifi your phone is connected to.

"Greetings! Sorry to hear you’re having issues with your Precision Cooker. I’ll do my best to get you connected.
Please follow the basic troubleshooting steps below.

-Please uninstall the Anova app.
-Reset the Precision Cooker by holding the WiFi / Bluetooth light indicator (located on the touch panel) down for 3-5 seconds. You will hear a beep. Do it twice. Unplug cooker, wait the a minute then plug the cooker back in to the power outlet.
-Make sure the Precision Cooker isn’t more than 5 ft away from the router for the initial setup and all your WiFi extenders / repeaters are disabled.
-Reinstall the app, reboot your phone, enable your device’s Bluetooth, launch the app and go through the setup process again."

I tried and tried to connect mine to wifi today and Nada. I purchased it via Amazon on 2-11-18.

-Samsung Galaxy S8
-Most up to date app and os
-2.4Ghz wifi network
-Linksys ea9300
-Password is letters and numbers (15 characters)
Network Name has spaces in it so i also created a guest network with no spaces and a very simple 8 character password. No luck still.

Tried using my phone as a mobile hotspot and connecting with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 4. Still nothing.

I tried all the steps above at least 3 times and no luck. My router has been rebooted several times as have my phone and tablet

@rparker87 you should contact Anova support, hopefully they can help.

My own suggestion would be to see if it can connect to some other network (perhaps a family members or friends) just to see if the unit will connect.

Good luck.

Pretty sure you can’t have spaces in the password or SSID (network name) so that would explain why your main network isn’t working.

I’d just disable the 5GHz network entirely while I was doing the setup - just so it’s not a factor.

Your phone has to be connected to the target 2.4GHz network during setup - that’s how the network information is supplied to the APC - over bluetooth, from the Anova app.

Use the instructions in the guide to reset the APC (just in case one of your prior connections were successful and it is looking for one of your prior network attempts). You want to set it up as new.

Oh…and the APC does have a pretty weak wifi radio - so you really want it close (within 5 or 6 feet) of your wireless access point during setup.

And, yes, you really want to call or e-mail support - as @Mirozen stated. They should be able to isolate what’s happening.

Good luck!

I have solved this problem… annoyed like hell
I have followed

-Please uninstall the Anova app.
-Reset the Precision Cooker by holding the WiFi / Bluetooth light indicator (located on the touch panel) down for 3-5 seconds. You will hear a beep. Do it twice. Unplug cooker, wait the a minute then plug the cooker back in to the power outlet.

-Reinstall the app, reboot your phone, enable your device’s Bluetooth, launch the app and go through the setup process again."

this instruction several times and it kept failed
And then, I tried removing spaces from my router’s SSID and simply named it simply like “myroomwifi2.4G”
Which was somethind like “My Room Wifi_2.4G”
And then the device… straight connected to the wifi
Just as that simply…
The SSID of your router should’t be containing any spaces in it
Clearly it’s Anova’s problem but for now seems like… changing the SSID from your side get yourself adopted to it is the only choice to use the product’s major advertised function
So wonderful… isn’t it?
Anyway, so… it’s works that way
I get stressed every time i see the simplified SSID of mine, but it works.

Sorry you had to go through all of that. I can confirm, that part of the Wi-Fi requirements is that the network name and password cannot have spaces.

If you wanted to revert to your old SSID, most WAP/routers have the capability of creating a guest network - you could have a dedicated guest network with a short SSID that you connect the APC to.

I put all IoT devices into their own DMZ as a matter of course. Each device (such as my Sony TV, the monitor for my solar system, etc.) lives in its own DMZ, so none of these devices can access my normal home network, and none of these devices can access each other. For example, there is absolutely no reason for my Sony TV to be able to talk to my laptop, so I don’t let it.

It’s naive to believe that all devices in my home are secure. It takes only one of them to have a security flaw to compromise my entire network and start attacking everything else. And the probability of one of n devices having a security flaw rapidly approaches 1.0 as the number of devices goes up.

People have had their networks hacked by their light bulbs. I see no reason to treat the Anova any differently.

Yeah, we’re going to see more and more of this as time goes on. Once you have one compromised device, the hackers have a beachhead to press harder. (the Anova’s actually my only connected device - never got into the home automation - yet - as all of the solutions out there were a bit kludgy for my liking). I still usually just use the controls on the device and my calendar for timing of the cook. The only real benefit for me to the cloud connection is being able to check the cook remotely when it’s a prolonged cook (such as ribs). Me, I think that’s something Anova could easily implement in their app - as you have the cloud connection, if there’s a loss in connectivity, send a notification. (allow the users to enable/disable the feature). Send another notification if the connection is re-established and the cook is still underway (ie. no loss of power, just an internet hiccup).

Used bumi900 aproach to this and it worked well for me. I had a long password and a space in my wifi name - inserted in the name, and PW changed, unpluged wifi access points. Connected in a minute or 2.
I was wondering if it is good to assign an IP address to the MAC number in the router setup to help re-connectivity.
I did that with a bunch of SONOS devices in my router and AP’s and it seems to help it stay solid on the network.

Hi There
I just restarted my phone after restarting the Annova and the router and doing all the steps they mentioned in the trouble shooting area.

Then connected automatically when i opened up the app.

Trust this helps

Awesome info guys! After a week of emails with Anova support and no luck fixing my Wifi connection issues (and still trying their fixes) I tried this community. Tried changing network name to eliminate spaces and VOILA, success the next attempt. Something so simple but so aggravating!!
I also to “michihenning” comments to heart and created a guest network for my Anova. No spaces in the network name and instant success again. And much safer approach to connecting devices to our network. Thanks for the tip! No Wifi lights in our house yet though lol.
Thanks again
